Boron nitride

Boron nitride is a material that is used in high temperature applications and it is available in various forms. It can be sprayed or painted in liquid form onto parts to protect them against molten metal, and in solid form they can be machined to a specified dimension as part of machinery. Unlike most ceramic materials, it is not that hard and can therefore be machined using normal tools.

Use our material selection tool to select the best material for your application!

Boron nitride is pressed into standard forms which limit the possible dimensions of your product. The pressing direction influences the material characteristics and can be crucial for your application. Beside forming, various factors can determine the characteristics of the material. Different binders can be used to keep the powder together and the chemical composition may also vary. We can help you to choose the best material for your application.

Yes, it is possible to machine it with normal tools. However, a lot of our clients choose to order a finished product. This avoids unnecessary pollution of your machinery and unwanted failure costs. Please send us your drawings and other requirements.
PBN is a high-purity ceramic with excellent chemical resistance and strength at high temperatures.
Boron nitride paint is often used in foundries to protect equipment and mould against wear. We have this paint in different purities.
This is not an easy question and depends on the specific requirements of your application. We know which type of materials are available in the market and can support you here.
